Eng.Georgi Dimov, chairman of the Union of Electrical, presents the history and current players in the market of electricity generation and distribution in the region. During the period 1947-1970, the energy of Bulgaria moves to central planning. In the early 50s of the 20th century in the area are built HPP "Koprinka" and HPP "Stara Zagora". In 1960. began production of lignite from the "Maritsa Iztok" construction of "Troyanovo-1." In September 1960 enacted emission the first turbine with capacity of 50 MW TPP "Maritza East 1", which marks the beginning of the construction of large thermal power plants in Bulgaria. Between 1966-1969, he began construction of the first phase of the "Maritsa Iztok 2" including 4 power units of 150 MW. Coal for the plant is supplied by "Troyanovo north."
With the enactment of the Law for the power supply in 1948 was the beginning of a unified electrification system with centralized organization and unification of energy facilities - power high, medium and low voltage; el.podstantsii and transformers. Management of the national energy system is carried out by Central Dispatch, territorial emission and regional dispatch services.
In 1976 created SMEK "Maritsa Iztok" - Municipality. In 1985 began the expansion of the "Maritsa Iztok 2" 4 power units with a total capacity of 850 MW, which the plant became the largest thermal power plant in Bulgaria. In the period 1978-1981, was built "Maritsa Iztok 3" 4 power units with a total capacity of 840 MW. The plant operates emission lignite coal mine "Troianovo 3" scheme for direct combustion.
There are dozens of miles of new high voltage power lines - 400 kV, 220 kV and 110 kV, new substations, hundreds of kilometers of overhead and underground cables for medium and low voltage, and new transformers, emission which increases security and
